Swing Coat!
I wanted a vintage swing coat so badly. I found more than a few in my size but, they were pretty boring. I already have two, one biege with a big fur collar, lovely but very dressy. The other is black jacquard, again nice but, I want something I can just throw on when I'm casual. My search turned up nothing so, I decided to make my own. At first, I was going to make one without a pattern but was advised not to do so until an online acquaintance mentioned Simplicity 4047:

This to me was perfect, cute but casual. Here is mine:

Look at that pleat!

Love the collar:

The lining could use lots of help

Sour Milk
When life gives you sour milk, what do you do? Make mocha banana muffins of course! And browines and buttermilk (sour milk) biscuits. I had a half of a gallon of milk go sour on me, instead of throwing it away like a sane person, I woke up and made 1/2 dozen of buttermilk biscuits, a pan of brownies, mocha banana muffins and blueberry biscuits. Dang! I gave most away to my brother and mother but, those biscuits sure were good.

No picture of the blueberry biscuits. :(

Vintage Wrap Front Dress
This look WAAAAY better on me but, I've moved my furniture around and no longer have a full length mirror so, that'll have to wait. I made this without a pattern and I think it came out pretty well. It actually came out a lot more formal than I first intended. I used some left over gold shantung silk that I've had for years. I used this silk to make the bedding for Sam, my dog's bed and had lots left over and the black silk I bought but didn't know exactly what to do with. The result is a dress that is very formal and I fear I won't wear it much.

It's been a long time since I've posted. Not that I haven't been cooking or baking or sewing but, it's hard to work, sew, bake, cook, date, run my mouth on the phone and blog too. Tonight, it's raining out. It's cold, I can't sleep and I had 5 yards of red netting. What would any girl do in those circumstances? Make a crinoline!!!! Red, and silky. Watch those circle skirts go poof.
